Knapping Dragon Photography: Celebrating One Year of Creativity and Connection

Today, Knapping Dragon Photography turns one, and what an incredible journey it’s been! Over the past year, I’ve poured my heart into building this business from the ground up, and I’m thrilled to share how far we’ve come.

From day one, my focus has been on connecting with our community face-to-face. I’ve been out at local events, offering affordable and even free portrait sessions to give people a taste of what Knapping Dragon Photography is all about. These interactions, paired with word-of-mouth buzz and strategic social media posts, have been the heartbeat of our growth. There’s something special about meeting clients in person, capturing their stories, and letting them experience the magic of a Knapping Dragon portrait. This grassroots approach has created a ripple effect, sparking excitement and helping us stand out in a crowded field.

But this year hasn’t just been about getting out there—it’s also been about leveling up as an artist. After leaving the constraints of a corporate-run studio, I finally had the freedom to explore and innovate. I dove deep into studying new techniques, mastering manual shooting, and experimenting with lighting in ways I never could before. The most exciting discovery? Light Art Photography, or what I like to call my signature “really cool light effects,” as one client so perfectly put it.

When I started, I noticed something in my research of local photographers: while their work was impressive, it all felt… similar. Nothing stood out as uniquely identifiable. I knew I had to push the boundaries of creative storytelling to make Knapping Dragon unforgettable. That’s when I turned to the work of renowned photographers like Lindsay Adler Photography, Jake Hicks Photography, Warren Marshall of New Castle Photography College, and Jason Page creator of lightpaintingbrushes.com. Their innovative approaches to lighting and manual shooting inspired me to experiment, adapt, and create a style that’s distinctly mine. By blending their techniques with my own vision, I’ve crafted portraits that don’t just capture moments—they tell stories with bold, dynamic light effects that leave a lasting impression.

This year of learning, hustling, and creating has set Knapping Dragon Photography apart. I’m no longer just another photographer in the crowd; I’m the one clients recognize for vibrant, original portraits that pop with personality. As I look to the future, I’m excited to keep pushing the limits, growing the business, and bringing even more “really cool” moments to life for our clients.

Thank you to everyone who’s been part of this first year—here’s to many more years of creativity, community, and unforgettable Light Art Photography!
