Session Spotlight: Cati’s Senior Portrait Adventure

Welcome back to this week’s Session Spotlight! I’m thrilled to share a peek into an unforgettable senior portrait session with Cati, a talented member of the archery club at Pangburn High School. When Cati told me about her passion for archery, I knew we had to incorporate her bow into the shoot. But if you’ve been following my work, you know I can’t resist adding a creative twist—and this session was no exception.
We kicked things off outdoors, capturing some classic poses with Cati and her bow. She was a natural, exuding confidence and strength as she held her weapon of choice. One of my favorite shots from this part of the session was a bold perspective: I positioned myself directly in front of Cati, with her bow pointed straight at my lens. Now, this is one of those poses that can look incredibly striking when done right—but safety always comes first. Here’s how we pulled it off:
No arrow tip. We skipped the actual arrowhead entirely. The photo still has that intense, dynamic feel without any risk.
Smart posing. I had Cati wrap her fingers around the arrow’s feathers, holding it in place instead of nocking it. She pulled the bowstring back just enough to create the illusion of a ready-to-fire stance.
The result? A heart-pumping shot that’s as safe as it is stunning. No one was in danger of getting an arrow to the knee—or anywhere else, for that matter!
After nailing those classic archery shots, we saved the best for last: the Light Art portion of the session. This is where my creative side really got to shine. For the featured image of the week, I painted Cati in a whole new way—literally. With her bow raised high, I moved behind her, using a light arc in Pangburn High School’s colors to frame her silhouette. The glowing streaks of light danced around her, blending strength and artistry into one unforgettable portrait. It’s a shot that celebrates Cati’s personality, her school spirit, and her archery prowess all at once.
