Setting the Record Straight: A Transparent Look at a Recent Wedding Experience at Knapping Dragon Photography

Updated: Jan 28

Hello, friends and fellow photography enthusiasts! I'm Lizzie Knapp, owner and lead photographer at Knapping Dragon Photography. First off, thank our for the incredible response to my recent announcement about bringing weddings back into our offerings--complete with updated packages that reflect our commitment to quality and clear expectations. We've seen a surge in inquiries, and I'm thrilled to be booking again after a brief hiatus.

As many of you know from glimpses on social media, on particular wedding from last Thanksgiving has sparked some online discussion. While I typically let my work speak for itself, recent events have prompted me to share my side of the story professionally and factually. This isn't about assigning blame but about transparency, defending my professional integrity, and highlighting the beautiful results that can come from even challenging situations. I have detailed records (emails, texts, schedules, and data logs) to support every step, which I'll reference here without sharing personal details to respect privacy.

The Initial Agreement and Going Above and Beyond

The clients originally booked our $400 "Ceremony with Preacher" session, which focused solely on capturing the vows and officiant-led moments (this package has since been updated to $600 as we refine our offerings based on experience). However, as planning progressed, they requested expansions: bride getting ready shots, the full ceremony, a private couple session, family portraits and coverage through the cake cutting. This essentially mirrored our former $1,000 "Whole Shebang" package (now priced higher to account for the extensive time and coordination involved).

In the spirit of accommodation and building a positive relationship, I agreed to include ALL these additions at no extra charge--even though it meant significantly more hours on site and in post-production. My husband, who is ordained and who assists me at events where an ordained minister is needed, has since decided we won't offer his services moving forward due to the demands, but at the time I was happy to make it work for them.

Too ensure I captured every desired pose and moment, I invested my own time and money in printing reference photos on smaller cards throughout the months leading up to the event. A majority of these were sent to me by the bride herself, some I used google search these were sent back and forth via text messages for approval, helping us align on their vision without missing a beat.

The Wedding Day: On Time and Organized

On the day itself--a beautiful but rather chilly Thanksgiving wedding in Cleburne County, Arkansas--I arrived around 12:30 P.M., as confirmed by my Waze navigation data. The clients had provided a detailed schedule, script, and outline of every family member and group shot required, which I truly appreciated and highly recommend going forward for EVERY bride to be to do, it made the day run smoothly and showcased their excellent planning skills (I even complimented the bride on it and thanked her for doing it!) We captured everything as outlined, from intimate getting-ready moments to joyful family portraits and the cake-cutting celebration. And the photos from that bubble mock exit are absolutely to die for! Take a look at a few below:

Post Wedding: sneak Peeks, Requests, and Edits

The initial sneak peeks were met with enthusiasm from the clients--they loved the previews!!! However, tensions arose when the requested the RAW files (unprocessed digital negatives straight from the camera). As is standard in professional photography, I do not release RAWs, Why? RAWs are like undeveloped film rolls--thy contain proprietary data specific to my camera and creative process. Sharing them would be akin to handing over unfinished ingredients rather than the final dish; it risks misrepresentation of my work, loss of creative control, and potential misuse. Most photographers, including myself, protect their intellectual property this way to ensure the integrity of the delivered art. It is also the only proof that I have that I took the photo as I have been falsely accused in the past of using stock images in my advertising.

From there, they specifically asked for minimal editing to keep images "as close to thee RAW as possible." I honored this multiple times, re-editing the gallery (over 400 images) three full rounds and providing step-by-step explanations via email and text; adjustments were limited to basic exposure tweaks for balance, cropping optimized for print quality and my signature Knapping Dragon Photography watermark in the bottom right corner. No heavy retouching, no filters--just clean, true-to life enhancements.

Importantly, I never use AI in my editing process--not for this wedding, nor any session at Knapping Dragon Photography. All work is done manually in professional software to preserve authenticity and my artistic touch. Accusations of AI use in reviews and comments were unfounded and surprising, given our transparent communication

The Final Delivery and Aftermath

The clients signed for the final delivery just before Christmas, confirming receipt. Shortly after, however, a coordinated series of negative reviews and public posts emerged, criticizing the minimal edits they had requested and even a month after when I offered them my own personal portfolio of the edits, with a proof watermark on them (done the way the were intended to be done without any restrictions on my creative process) at a discounted rate, a standard industry practice to protect proofs, with removal available if they decided to purchase the add on. This felt like an organized smear campaign, even their friends and family got involved, especially after months of positive interactions.

Despite the challenges, I chose to revisit the images one last time--editing them my way, without restrictions to show case their full potential (the add on I offered at a discounted rate mentioned above). The results? Stunning, vibrant phots that truly capture the day's magic and emotion. These "perfect" versions highlight what professional photography can achieve when alined with the artist's vision.
